Printing! Simple Steps to Surface Design

WAFTA members and the WASG (Wearable Art Study Group) are invited to come along and get some inspiration for your WAFTA Challenge piece, Wearable Art or as a taster for your textile techniques toolbox!

We will cover the basics for a variety of ways to add colour, pattern and texture to fabric and other items without the need for expensive equipment or materials. Take home samples of screen printing, stamping, Gelli Plate printing, fugitive media, dyeing and more.

These workshops are designed for the absolute beginner as well as the more advanced wanting to have a play. The aim is to go home with lots of small samples, the skills to make your own print mat, screens and stamps and the enthusiasm to explore further!

Louise Wells is a textile artist based in Perth, Western Australia. She has always had a love of textiles right from when her left handed Nanna tried to teach her to crochet right handed. A long break from a full time textile practice in her 20′s to raise her children allowed Louise to learn and explore many areas of textile interest for pure enjoyment. Her current textile practice is the result of this development and life experience. She has a passion for colour and finds pattern in architecture and nature a continual inspiration. Louise is fascinated by the hidden stories we all have, often using this as a theme in her work.

#1 Do I have to be a WAFTA member to attend this Textile Technique Toolbox?

Yes. All WAFTA Textile Technique Toolboxes are for WAFTA members only unless otherwise stated. If you would like to attend this workshop please complete a membership application and payment - Membership is $50 (conc.$40) per financial year payable by PayPal. Once we have confirmed receipt of your payment you will be eligible to book a place on a WAFTA workshop or toolbox.

#2 Do you have a waiting list if this toolbox is fully booked?

Yes, if the toolbox is full up please do register your name on our waiting list through Eventbrite. Should a participant be unable to attend, due to unforseen circumstances, this will enable us to release their ticket to the first available person on the waiting list. An email notification will be sent to you via Eventbrite with instructions on completing your transaction. You will need to have a confirmed WAFTA membership to be eligible.

#3 What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is plenty of parking at or near Craft House, although please be aware that the Tennis Club also uses the car park at times. Public transport is available to Alexander Drive, near Bradford Street, then it's a short walk through to Clyde Road - Google maps offers driving and public transport directions, or visit Transperth to plan your journey.

#5 What's the refund policy?

Please consider your participation in this toolbox carefully. We can only offer a refund if it is possible to find another WAFTA member to take your place. Tickets are not transferable by the purchaser. Please contact events@waftacom.au in the event you are unable to attend and we will do our best to find a replacement from our waiting lists or the wider membership.
